Hi I’m Laura Pardo. I’m a visual artist from Colombia, currently living in The Netherlands.
I completed my bachelor at the Art Department of Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, Colombia, and my master at the Utrecht Graduate School of Art and Design in The Netherlands.
In my practice I scrutinize the condition of the everyday through the artistic agency, exploring how the quotidian and the non-spectacular, far from being superfluous, can give signs of fundamental underlying issues. By working exhaustively with collected material, engaging with people and places and developing works that take the form of drawings, events, swaps and paintings, I intend to open up new spaces for understanding cultural and socio-economic changes. Some of my works look at the aesthetics of the city and the graphic information found in common printed matter to address issues of identity, localities and authenticity in a so called globalized world. Recent shows and projects include: Fruit Politics (2014), Academy Gallery, Addis Ababa University (ET); Sobre Coleccionismo y otras Interpretaciones (2013), Quartair, Den Haag (NL); Intersecciones (2012), Museo de Arte Moderno, Bogotá (CO); ‘… and something happened to me’ (2011), B32|F65 Maastricht (NL).
I’m also a member of Read-in, a self-organized research group that explores the material, affective and political dimensions of “reading together”. Recent events and exhibitions with Read-in include ‘Made in Commons: Indonesian Iteration’ (2015), KUNCI Cultural Studies Center, Yogyakarta (IDN); ‘Made in Commons’ (2014), SMBA, Amsterdam (NL); ‘Randzonenlesung’ (2013), NKV, Wiesbaden (DE).
